Sri Lanka Introduces Online Passport Collection Reservation System

Sri Lanka immigration & Emigration - BusinessNews.LK

The Department of Immigration and Emigration in Sri Lanka has launched an online appointment system for passport collection, set to be operational from November 6, 2024. This innovative approach, announced by Acting Immigration and Emigration Controller General D.M.D. Nilusha Balasuriya, aims to streamline the passport collection process, enhancing convenience and reducing wait times for applicants.

Key Highlights:

  • Online Reservation Platform: Individuals can now book passport collection appointments directly through the Department’s official website. The system offers flexibility, enabling users to make reservations any day, any time, and from any location.
  • Token Allocation: A limited number of same-day collection tokens are available through the system. Once these tokens are filled, applicants can secure a future date for their passport collection.
  • Shift to Online-Only Appointments: As of November 6, in-person date reservations at the Department will be discontinued, making the online system the sole method for scheduling passport appointments.

This digital shift aligns with the Department’s efforts to enhance accessibility and convenience for citizens, leveraging technology to improve public service efficiency in Sri Lanka.
