The remarks were made at a time when national institutions continue to play a central role in emergency response, public service, and efforts to restore confidence and stability following recent crises.
President Anura Kumara Dissanayake commended the Sri Lanka Army for its continued dedication to protecting the nation and serving the public during challenging periods. He highlighted the Army’s discipline and commitment as essential pillars of national resilience.
Role in Disaster Response
The President specifically acknowledged the Army’s contribution to rescue and relief operations following the recent cyclone. Military personnel were deployed across affected areas to assist evacuations, deliver aid, and support recovery work.
He said such actions reflect the Army’s responsibility beyond defence, extending to humanitarian service during national emergencies.

Address at Diyatalawa Ceremony
The President made these remarks while attending the commissioning and passing-out parade of cadet officers at the Sri Lanka Military Academy in Diyatalawa. He attended the event as Chief Guest.
During the ceremony, he congratulated newly commissioned officers on completing their training and entering professional military service. He encouraged them to uphold discipline, integrity, and responsibility throughout their careers.
Call for National Renewal
In his address, the President noted that although Sri Lanka has long been respected globally, recent decades have seen a decline in values and social cohesion. He said rebuilding trust, integrity, and unity requires collective effort.
He stressed that transforming the country into a respected and value-driven nation is a shared responsibility. The President urged all citizens, institutions, and future leaders to work together with commitment and unity.
Message to Future Officers
The President reminded cadet officers that leadership carries moral responsibility. He said their conduct should reflect the highest standards of service, professionalism, and loyalty to the people.
He expressed confidence that the new officers will contribute positively to national stability and development.
