CHOGM 2026: Sri Lanka’s Prime Minister to Discuss Investment-Led Growth, Women’s Empowerment and Global Health

Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya has left for Antigua and Barbuda to represent Sri Lanka at CHOGM 2026, the Commonwealth’s main leaders’ meeting.

She departed on October 31 and will take part in the meeting in St. John’s. Leaders from the Commonwealth’s 56 member countries will attend the main summit from November 1 to 4.

What Is CHOGM 2026?

CHOGM stands for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting. Commonwealth leaders meet every two years to discuss shared issues and set priorities for cooperation among member countries.

This year, Antigua and Barbuda will host the meeting under the theme, “Accelerating Partnerships and Investment for a Prosperous Commonwealth.” The 2026 meeting will cover areas such as climate resilience, trade, investment, innovation, equality and sustainable development.

The Commonwealth brings together 56 independent countries across Africa, Asia, the Caribbean and the Americas, Europe and the Pacific. Together, these countries are home to about 2.7 billion people.

What Will Sri Lanka Discuss?

Prime Minister Amarasuriya will take part in the CHOGM Executive Sessions and Leaders’ Retreat. During these discussions, Sri Lanka will present its views on economic cooperation and investment, digital transformation, youth empowerment, climate change and good governance.

In addition, the Prime Minister is scheduled to meet several Commonwealth leaders, political figures and business leaders during the visit. Those meetings will cover diplomatic, trade and development partnerships.

She will also take part in the Commonwealth Women’s Forum, Commonwealth Leaders and CEOs Investment Summit and Global Eye Health Summit.

These engagements will provide opportunities to discuss investment-led growth, women’s empowerment and global health cooperation. For Sri Lanka, CHOGM 2026 therefore brings together economic, investment and wider Commonwealth issues on one platform.

The Prime Minister is scheduled to remain in Antigua and Barbuda until November 6 as part of the visit.
