HNB Among Banks Dominating Sri Lanka’s Top 10 Most Valuable Brands in 2026

HNB Among Banks Dominating Sri Lanka’s Top 10 Most Valuable Brands in 2026

Six banks have secured places among Sri Lanka’s 10 most valuable brands, with banking accounting for 42% of the total value in the latest Brand Finance Sri Lanka 100 Report.

HNB is among the banks in the Top 10, with a brand value of Rs.25.4 billion. The banking sector’s combined brand value reached Rs.275 billion, up 14% from the previous year.

Banking takes six Top 10 places

The strong presence of banks places the sector at the centre of this year’s leading brand rankings.

Brand Finance assesses brands using factors including marketing investment, stakeholder views and business performance. The Sri Lanka 100 report is now in its 22nd edition.

The results come as several banks have reported strong financial performance.

HNB, for example, recorded group profit after tax of Rs.49.8 billion in 2025. Its group assets grew 19.4% to Rs.2.64 trillion, while its loans passed Rs.1.5 trillion after growing 30.5%.

HNB’s Rs.25.4 billion brand value

HNB Managing Director and CEO Damith Pallewatte said the bank’s brand value reflects the trust placed in the institution by customers and the wider market.

He said the recognition also reflects HNB’s focus on serving customers and expanding access to financial services.

HNB has built its business across retail, small and medium enterprises and corporate banking. Its Gami Pubuduwa programme, started in the 1980s, continues to support small businesses outside traditional banking.

The bank’s Sarusara programme also supports farmers through finance, market access and other services.

Banking remains central to brand value

The six banks in the Top 10 show the large role financial services continue to play in the country’s brand rankings.

HNB’s Rs.25.4 billion valuation forms part of a banking sector worth Rs.275 billion among the Top 10 brands.

The ranking therefore offers a broader picture of the banking sector’s place in the market, rather than measuring the strength of any single bank alone.
