The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) says social media claims about price increases for powdered milk, condensed milk, yoghurt and other dairy products are fake.
A post carrying the label “BREAKING NEWS” is currently spreading on social media.
The post claims that several dairy products have become more expensive.
However, the CAA has rejected the claims and said the information is false.
The Authority has asked consumers to check price-related reports before sharing them.
CAA Warns Consumers
The CAA said unverified price claims can create unnecessary panic among consumers.
Such reports can also cause confusion in the market when people act on information that authorities have not confirmed.
Consumers should therefore check with reliable sources before sharing claims about changes in product prices.
The Authority has also asked the public to report suspected price changes and other market irregularities.
Consumers can contact the CAA through its 1977 hotline to report such concerns.
For now, the CAA has confirmed that the social media claims about higher prices for powdered milk, condensed milk, yoghurt and the other listed products are false.
