The Government plans to purchase 39,500 metric tons of paddy during the 2026 Yala cultivation season. The program aims to support farmers while maintaining adequate paddy stocks.
Also, currently the board plans to purchase up to 2,500 kilograms of paddy from each farmer. However, officials may review this limit as the procurement program progresses.
The PMB will carry out purchases through 148 storage centres located across the country. This network is expected to improve collection and storage during the harvesting season.
Update on Storage Capacity?
The Government will lease private warehouses if the PMB’s existing storage facilities reach capacity. This arrangement will help the Board continue buying paddy without interruptions during the procurement program.
The PMB expected to purchase paddy throughout the 2026 Yala harvesting season. Officials will monitor procurement volumes, review storage capacity and make adjustments if additional facilities or changes to purchasing limits become necessary.
