Faster air connectivity can play an important role in boosting tourism, business travel, and trade. A new direct air service between Ahmedabad and Colombo is expected to do just that by reducing travel time and improving access between western India and Colombo.
FitsAir launched its inaugural direct flight between Ahmedabad and Colombo today, establishing the first direct air connection between the two cities.
The new route reduces travel time from nearly eight hours on connecting services to approximately three hours, making travel more convenient for tourists, business travellers, and investors.
Direct Route Expected to Support Business Travel
Airport and industry officials expect the new service to strengthen travel and commercial links between Gujarat and Colombo.
Previously, passengers travelling between the two destinations relied on connecting flights, often extending journey times to eight hours or more.
The shorter travel time is expected to improve accessibility for business meetings, trade activities, tourism, and investment-related travel.
As economic links between India and Colombo continue to expand, direct connectivity is increasingly viewed as an important factor in facilitating business activity.
Tourism Promotion Campaign Launched
The inaugural flight departed from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad and was marked by a special ceremony attended by former cricket captain Sanath Jayasuriya and other dignitaries.
The launch also coincided with the introduction of the “Chalo Colombo, Haalo Sri Lanka” campaign organised by City of Dreams and FitsAir.
The campaign aims to promote tourism, cultural exchanges, and people-to-people connections between India and Colombo while encouraging more visitors to explore travel opportunities.
Three Weekly Flights Planned
FitsAir is expected to operate the Ahmedabad-Colombo route three times a week.
The airline believes the new service will help meet growing demand from travellers seeking direct access between Gujarat and Colombo.
For businesses, the route could provide improved connectivity for trade delegations, corporate travellers, and potential investors looking to explore opportunities in both markets.
