No Setback to Education Reform Process, Says Prime Minister

She made these remarks while addressing a discussion with education officers and school principals in the Puttalam education zone on Friday (17).

The Prime Minister said reform plans already introduced will move forward as intended. She described the education reform programme as a long-term process aimed at improving learning outcomes.

She said ongoing efforts focus on upgrading school infrastructure, recruiting teachers and principals, and expanding access to digital technology.

The Prime Minister also stressed the importance of maintaining mutual trust between the Government and education officials. She said opposition from a small group with narrow interests should not slow reforms.

Dr. Amarasuriya said the reform process will shape the future of children and influence the country’s long-term development. She added that public confidence is essential for its success.

She further confirmed that funds have been allocated for special programmes under the education transformation initiative.

Within the first two months, selected secondary schools will receive digital education facilities. These include interactive screens and improved internet connectivity, she said.
