SLBFE Appoints 100 New Employees to Strengthen Migrant Worker Services

SLBFE Appoints 100 New Employees to Strengthen Migrant Worker Services

The Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) has appointed 100 new employees to fill vacancies and improve services for migrant workers and people seeking jobs overseas.

The appointments were made on Monday (7) under the patronage of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism Minister Vijitha Herath.

The new employees will work in several positions, including management assistants, information technology officers, drivers and office assistants.

New staff to work across the country

The SLBFE will assign the new employees to its head office as well as provincial and district offices.

The placements will depend on staffing needs at each location. This is intended to help offices maintain services without interruptions.

The Bureau provides services to people planning to work overseas, existing migrant workers and their families. These services cover areas linked to foreign employment and support for Sri Lankans working abroad.

Adding staff to offices across the country could therefore help the Bureau respond to workers and job seekers more efficiently.

The information technology officers will also add capacity in an area that supports the Bureau’s day-to-day services. Management assistants and office assistants will support administrative work, while drivers will help with operational requirements.

Open recruitment process

The Bureau said it selected the new employees through an open recruitment process.

Applicants were assessed against the educational and professional qualifications required for each position. The appointments are intended to address existing vacancies rather than create new positions without considering staffing needs.

For migrant workers and prospective workers, the main benefit should come through better access to services.

A person preparing to take up an overseas job may need assistance before departure, while families may also depend on the Bureau for information and support.

The new appointments are expected to help the SLBFE maintain these services at both its central and regional offices.

The move comes as overseas employment remains an important source of income for the country. Improving the capacity of the agency responsible for supporting migrant workers can help ensure that people seeking overseas employment receive services with fewer delays.

The Bureau will now place the 100 new employees according to the needs of its different offices, with the aim of providing more efficient and uninterrupted services to migrant workers, overseas job seekers and their families.
