More than 88,000 people across six districts are facing the impact of dry weather, according to the Disaster Management Centre (DMC).

The DMC said 88,068 people from 27,475 families are affected across 28 Divisional Secretariat divisions.

Authorities are now supplying drinking water to 86,368 people from 27,048 families in 27 Divisional Secretariat divisions.

Monaragala has the highest number of people receiving drinking water. Supplies are reaching 37,890 people from 11,751 families in the district.

Batticaloa has the second-highest number. The DMC said 28,523 people from 9,547 families are receiving drinking water there.

Water supplies are also reaching 8,847 people in Ampara and 8,383 people in Badulla.

In Polonnaruwa, authorities are supplying drinking water to 2,646 people. Another 79 people in Ratnapura are receiving water supplies.

The figures show how dry weather is affecting access to drinking water across several areas.

Of the 88,068 people affected, the DMC says 86,368 are receiving drinking water. That is about 98% of the affected population.

The largest demand for water comes from Monaragala and Batticaloa. Together, the two districts account for more than 66,000 people receiving drinking water.

The DMC figures do not state how long the dry weather will continue or whether more people could need water supplies if conditions persist.
