Expressways Generate Rs. 124.6mn From 325,316 Vehicles Over Two Days

More than 325,000 vehicles used the expressway network over two recent holidays, bringing in Rs. 124.6 million in revenue.

The Road Development Authority (RDA) said 163,763 vehicles travelled on the expressways on August 26. This generated Rs. 60.4 million in revenue for the day.

Traffic remained high the following day. A total of 161,553 vehicles used the network on August 27, generating another Rs. 64.2 million.

That took total expressway revenue for the two days to Rs. 124,574,925.

Holiday Traffic Drives Expressway Revenue

The figures show the level of traffic moving through the expressway network during the two-day holiday period.

More than 160,000 vehicles used the expressways on each day, with traffic spread across the network.

The Southern Expressway (E01) and the Outer Circular Expressway (E02) recorded the highest number of vehicles during the period.

The two routes connect several busy travel corridors and typically carry large volumes of traffic during holiday periods.

The revenue figures also varied between the two days. Although August 27 recorded fewer vehicles than August 26, revenue was higher by about Rs. 3.75 million.

August 26 saw 163,763 vehicles generate Rs. 60.4 million. On August 27, 161,553 vehicles generated Rs. 64.2 million.

Based on the RDA figures, the network handled an average of about 162,658 vehicles per day over the two holidays.

The two-day period therefore brought both heavy traffic and higher toll collections across the expressway network, with the E01 and E02 recording the highest traffic volumes.
