Tourist Arrivals Cross 600,000 in Early 2026 – STDA

Tourist arrivals have crossed the 600,000 mark in early 2026, recording continued recovery in the tourism sector.

The Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (STDA) reported that 604,301 visitors arrived between January 1 and March 8, according to the latest industry data.

The first week of March also showed steady travel demand. Authorities recorded 47,646 tourist arrivals during the first eight days of the month.

India continued to rank as the largest source market for visitors. In February alone, 11,345 travellers from India arrived, accounting for 24 percent of total arrivals.

Several other markets also maintained strong travel flows. These included Russia with 4,388 visitors, the United Kingdom with 4,136, China with 4,032, and Germany with 3,634 arrivals.

Industry analysts say the early-year performance reflects stronger travel confidence and improved international connectivity.

Last year provides a useful comparison point. In March 2025, the country welcomed 229,298 tourists during the month.

Officials expect sustained promotional campaigns and expanding flight connectivity to support further growth in visitor arrivals throughout 2026.
