In his first national address since taking office, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake unveiled a comprehensive plan to transform Sri Lanka’s economic and social landscape. Stressing the need for economic stability as the foundation for broader reforms, Dissanayake pledged to initiate discussions with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and expedite the country’s debt restructuring process.
“We will begin discussions with the IMF soon and continue with the Extended Fund Facility,” he stated, expressing confidence in garnering both public and international support.
The President highlighted the importance of achieving national unity and eliminating negative political traits, while vowing to uphold democratic rights and inclusivity for all ethnic and religious groups. He emphasized a disciplined society and a robust public service, declaring his vision to elevate Sri Lanka’s global image and make every citizen proud of their nationality.
Calling for collective action, Dissanayake invited all Sri Lankans to unite in rebuilding the nation, ensuring a secure future for the next generation.
