Sri Lanka Army Wins 8th Canoe Sprint National Championship in Jaffna; Delft Maha Vidyalaya Dominates Dragon Boat Races

The 8th Canoe Sprint National Championship, organized by the National Association for Canoeing and Kayaking in Sri Lanka (NACKSL), concluded in Jaffna, offering a unique experience for participants.

Held for the first time in the scenic waters off Jaffna Fort from September 14-16, 2024, the event saw the Sri Lanka Army emerge as champions, while the Sri Lanka Navy claimed the runner-up position.

In collaboration with the Sri Lanka Navy, NACKSL aimed to promote water sports in the Northern Province through this championship. Supported by the Provincial Council and the Provincial Education Ministry, the event provided a fresh platform for water sports enthusiasts in the region.

Delft Maha Vidyalaya excelled in the competition, securing victories in both the Boys’ and Girls’ Dragon Boat Championships, showcasing their impressive talent and teamwork.

The championship was attended by several distinguished guests, including Chief Secretary to the Northern Province, Mr. L. Ilangowan, who served as the Chief Guest. Other notable attendees included Mrs. Mala Lamahewa, President of the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit, Rear Admiral Chinthaka Kumarasinghe, President of NACKSL and Commander of the Western Naval Area, Major General Chandana Wickramasinghe, Commander of Security Forces Jaffna, and other high-ranking military and provincial officials, along with students, teachers, and water sports enthusiasts.
