Second Phase of BIA Development and TV Broadcast Digitization Projects Recommences with JICA Support

The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), represented by its Chief Representative, Mr. Yamada Tetsuya, met with Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake, Secretary to the President, to discuss the recommencement of critical development projects in Sri Lanka, including the second phase of the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) Development Project and the Terrestrial Television Broadcast Digitization Project.

Key Highlights:

• Focus on Strategic Projects: The meeting emphasized the importance of swiftly completing 11 ongoing JICA-supported projects, including the modernization of BIA and the digitization of television broadcasting infrastructure.
• Support for BIA Development: JICA’s involvement in the second phase of the BIA Development Project aims to enhance airport capacity, improve passenger handling facilities, and support tourism and international travel connectivity.
• Digitization of Broadcast: The Terrestrial Television Broadcast Digitization Project is set to revolutionize Sri Lanka’s broadcasting landscape, ensuring clearer transmission and better-quality viewing for the public.
• High-Level Engagement: The meeting was attended by key officials, including Mr. Katsuhiro Suzuki, Second Secretary of the Japanese Embassy in Sri Lanka, underlining Japan’s strong commitment to Sri Lanka’s development efforts.
