Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena has officially tendered his resignation to President Ranil Wickremesinghe, following the results of Sri Lanka’s Presidential Election 2024. In his resignation letter, Gunawardena cited Article 47 (2) of the Constitution, stating that with the election of the 9th Executive President on September 21, he is stepping down in accordance with constitutional provisions.
He also extended his congratulations to the newly elected President, Anura Kumara Dissanayake, following his victory in the election.
