President Anura Kumara Dissanayake Promotes 1,412 Sri Lanka Army Personnel in Honour of 75th Army Anniversary

In commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the Sri Lanka Army, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, has approved the promotion of 1,412 personnel from the Regular and Volunteer Forces.

This promotion drive, recommended by the Ministry of Defence and Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage, Commander of the Army, recognizes the dedication and service of 139 Officers and 1,273 Other Ranks within the Army.

Officer Promotions

  • Promotion of Lieutenants and Second Lieutenants: The President approved the promotion of 131 Lieutenants (including Quarter Masters) to the rank of Captain and 8 Second Lieutenants (Regular and Volunteer Force) to the rank of Lieutenant.

These promotions highlight the commitment of the officer corps to the nation’s defence and signify a step forward in their military careers.

Promotions in Other Ranks

A total of 1,273 personnel from the category of Other Ranks were elevated to their next rank:

  • Warrant Officers and Staff Sergeants: 99 Warrant Officers-II were promoted to the rank of Warrant Officer-I, while 185 Staff Sergeants moved up to Warrant Officer-II.
  • Sergeants and Corporals: 380 Sergeants were promoted to Staff Sergeant and 346 Corporals to Sergeant.
  • Junior Ranks: 111 Lance Corporals were promoted to the rank of Corporal, and 152 Privates were elevated to Lance Corporal.
