President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has instructed provincial Governors to submit a proposal to streamline and rationalize the Provincial Council mechanism. In a discussion held today at the Presidential Secretariat, the President emphasized that the Provincial Councils must focus on providing optimal services, especially during the government’s transitional period.

- Land and Finance Issues: Special attention was paid to resolving land issues in the Northern and Eastern provinces and finding solutions to finance challenges faced by the councils.
- Public Service and Asset Management: The President stressed the importance of avoiding poor past practices in managing state assets and ensuring the delivery of high-quality public services.
- Agricultural Support: Discussions were held regarding land allocation to farmers in Kantale, with the President seeking updates from the Governors on the matter.
The meeting saw participation from Governors including Nagalingam Vedanayagam (Northern Province), Champa Janaki Rajaratne (Sabaragamuwa Province), and Professor Jayantha Lal Ratnasekera (Eastern Province), among others.
This initiative reflects the President’s commitment to improving governance and delivering on the trust placed in him by the people.
