The Commissioner General of Elections, Saman Sri Ratnayake, announced that Laxman Nipuna Arachchi will be appointed as a Member of Parliament to fill the vacancy created by Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s election as Sri Lanka’s 9th Executive President.
This was confirmed by Tilvin Silva, an executive member of the National People’s Power (NPP), during a press conference at the party’s office in Pelwatte on September 22. Silva clarified that while the NPP has no control over the appointment process, Arachchi is next on the preference list after Dissanayake.
The Election Commission will now move forward with officially appointing Laxman Nipuna Arachchi as the new Member of Parliament.
