Ambassador of Italy to Sri Lanka, Damiano Francovigh, met with Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya at the Prime Minister’s Office on Wednesday (30), reaffirming the longstanding relationship between the two countries. The discussion centered around enhancing bilateral cooperation, particularly in the areas of skilled migration, tourism, and investment, according to the Prime Minister’s Media Division.

- Skilled Migration and Employment: A major point of discussion was foreign employment opportunities for Sri Lankans in Italy, with a focus on skilled migration. Prime Minister Amarasuriya highlighted the importance of equipping Sri Lankan workers through the Vocational Training Authority to meet Italy’s demand for skilled labor.
- Tourism and Investment: Both sides acknowledged the importance of fostering policies that would attract Italian tourists and investors to Sri Lanka, recognizing the positive impact of these sectors on economic growth.

The meeting saw attendance from Italian Deputy Head of Mission Dr. Alberto Arcidiacono, and key Sri Lankan officials, including Mr. Pradeep Saputhanthri, Secretary to the Prime Minister, and Ms. Isurika Karunarathna, Director of the Europe and North America Division at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
