The Commissioner General of Elections, Saman Sri Ratnayake, has announced that the first results of Sri Lanka’s Presidential Election 2024, which concluded today (21), will be released before 12:00 midnight.
Vote counting across the country is expected to begin between 8:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m., once all ballot boxes are delivered to the respective counting centers. Ratnayake emphasized that each polling station will only commence counting after receiving all its ballot boxes.
Additionally, this year’s election saw a significant number of postal voters, with 712,318 registered. Of these, all but 6,200 had successfully cast their votes. The counting of postal votes began earlier at 429 designated centers following the conclusion of voting at 4:00 p.m..
The nation now waits for the results of this closely contested race as the final tally begins.
