At the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco, Cristiano Ronaldo was celebrated by UEFA as the all-time top scorer in the Champions League. The Portuguese forward, now with Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia, was recognized for his remarkable achievement of 140 goals in 183 matches.
The award was presented by UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin during the season-opening gala, which also featured the draw for the revamped 2024-2025 Champions League. This season marks the debut of the new format, featuring 36 teams and eliminating the traditional group stage.
Ronaldo, who has scored over 140 goals across a career spanning more than 18 years, has played for Sporting Lisbon, Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Juventus. His record includes seven seasons as the top scorer of the competition, surpassing Lionel Messi by 11 goals and Robert Lewandowski by 46. Ronaldo is the only player to have scored in three different Champions League finals and holds the record for most goals in a single season with 17 in the 2013/14 campaign.
Ceferin lauded Ronaldo’s achievements, stating that his contributions are “destined to withstand the test of time” and praised his relentless pursuit of both individual and team success.
In a poignant moment, Ronaldo expressed gratitude for the accolade and hinted at a potential future return to the Champions League. His legacy remains a significant inspiration for aspiring footballers worldwide.
