SriLankan Airlines, the national carrier of Sri Lanka, has appointed Sarath Ganegoda as its new Chairman, effective from October 9, 2024. The announcement comes alongside the naming of a new Board of Directors to steer the airline’s strategic direction and management under Ganegoda’s leadership.

A Proven Leader with Extensive Corporate Experience
Mr. Sarath Ganegoda is a distinguished business leader, currently serving as Group Executive Director of Hayleys PLC and Deputy Chairman of Alumex PLC. Since joining Hayleys in 2007, Ganegoda has played a pivotal role in the Group’s strategic and financial management. His appointment as Chairman of SriLankan Airlines is expected to bring robust leadership and governance, leveraging his vast experience in managing diverse portfolios.
He became a part of the Hayleys Group Management Committee in 2007 and ascended to the Board of Hayleys PLC in 2009. In 2010, he joined the Board of Alumex PLC, further solidifying his reputation as an astute business strategist. Ganegoda is also a Fellow Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka and a Member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) in Australia.
Holding an MBA from the Post Graduate Institute of Management at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Ganegoda has a strong academic foundation to complement his corporate acumen. His previous leadership roles in both local and international companies have equipped him with a comprehensive understanding of complex business environments.
