Sri Lanka Records First Deflation Since 2015 as Inflation Turns Negative in September

Headline inflation, measured by the year-on-year (Y-o-Y) change in the Colombo Consumer Price Index (CCPI), fell into negative territory in September 2024, marking a deflation of 0.5%  the first since September 2015.

The Food category registered a Y-o-Y deflation of 0.3% in September, down from an inflation of 0.8% in August. Similarly, the Non-Food category also saw a Y-o-Y deflation of 0.5%, compared to an inflation of 0.4% in the previous month.
