Namal Rajapaksa Promises to Develop, Not Sell, State Properties

Namal Rajapaksa

Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) presidential candidate Namal Rajapaksa vowed to boost state revenue through the development of state properties rather than selling them. Speaking at an election rally in Hakmana on August 28, Rajapaksa criticized those who propose selling state assets, arguing that such properties were not created by the current rulers but by previous generations.

Rajapaksa highlighted former President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s commitment to developing rural infrastructure, such as marketplaces for local farmers. He emphasized the need to continue this legacy by enhancing infrastructure and economic opportunities.

Reflecting on the past, Rajapaksa contrasted his family’s achievements with other leaders’ failed attempts to end the decades-long conflict. He praised President Rajapaksa for ending the war and advancing rural development, while accusing critics of undermining the contributions of war heroes and national pride.

Rajapaksa promised that, if elected, his government would focus on creating jobs by attracting investors and building infrastructure at both national and village levels. He outlined plans to establish industries in every district and integrate technology into public services to address unemployment and enhance efficiency.

He also recalled the achievements of the Rajapaksa era, including strengthened farmer economies, improved highways, and tourism development, asserting that these efforts were halted after 2015. Rajapaksa committed to reviving these initiatives, integrating technology, and improving public service efficiency to make Sri Lanka a leading nation in Asia.
