Facebook and Instagram outage triggers global login problems

Users across multiple countries experienced unexpected logouts and account access issues, while reports suggested the disruption may have affected several Meta-owned services.

Facebook and Instagram outage triggers global login problems

Users across multiple countries reported difficulties accessing Facebook and Instagram on Friday (June 12th), with many saying they were unexpectedly logged out of their accounts and unable to sign back in normally.

The disruption quickly sparked concern among users, particularly those who initially believed their accounts had been hacked or compromised after being logged out without warning.

Reports began emerging throughout the afternoon as users turned to other platforms to determine whether the problem was affecting only their accounts or a wider group of users.

Users report unexpected logouts

The most common complaint involved users being automatically logged out of Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger accounts.

Many reported difficulties accessing notifications, messages, settings, and other account features after attempting to log back in.

Others said applications appeared frozen, failed to load content, or remained stuck on loading screens.

One user wrote: “For a minute there, I thought I was hacked.”

Another user said: “Facebook and Instagram are both down for me. Won’t load my notifications or allow me to like or comment on stuff or even load messages.”

Problems extend beyond login access

While login issues appeared to be the primary concern, users also reported disruptions affecting other platform functions.

Instagram users experienced problems with direct messages, search features, and content feeds.

Facebook users reported error messages and difficulties loading content.

Some Messenger users also indicated that they had been unexpectedly signed out of their accounts.

Reports emerge from multiple countries

Users from several countries, including the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and the Philippines, reported similar experiences.

The widespread nature of the complaints suggests the disruption was not limited to a particular region.

Although the full extent of the outage remains unclear, reports indicate that multiple Meta-owned services may have been affected simultaneously.

Users advised not to rush into password changes

The outage caused confusion among some users who feared their accounts had been compromised.

However, previous disruptions affecting Meta platforms have often been linked to technical issues rather than security breaches.

As a result, users experiencing login difficulties are being advised to avoid repeatedly changing passwords or account settings while the issue is being investigated.

At the time of reporting, the cause of the disruption had not been officially confirmed, while users continued to await the restoration of normal services across Facebook, Instagram, and related platforms.
